Small towns in the U.S.A. are much like the small towns portrayed in the mystery novels of England. Where everyone knows everything about everyone, yet it turns out that very few residents truly know the people with whom they share daily play and work. Cedar Post is a small town in eastern New Mexico, set in early 1950s, and Miss Clarke is the amateur detective whose age allows her to mingle and ask questions.
