Today’s post is about the news I access daily, sharing the links to trustworthy news and information outlets, including daily newsletters and digital magazines. Like millions across the world, I have deleted social media accounts and no longer want to be a part of the networks that Republican and Neo-Nazi billionaires own – Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, et al. I have considered the consequences of my exit from social media. Having done this, I make it harder for old friends and acquaintances to find me; but family and close friends already know how to contact me. And there is the obvious, that social media is one way that people in war zones and national emergencies can share their stories. Also, I no longer contribute our side of things. Several times a day, I posted news stories and personal perspectives that I believed were necessary for fighting the right-wing’s flood of deliberate misinformation. The algorithms beat me. As the billionaire owners planned, the algorithms prevent posts that present opposing views from being seen. Therefore, I refuse to play along and boost right wing disinformation.

Here are the top stories coming into my email box today:

1.  Stephen Miller in the Trump Administration not only whispers daily into the Demented Old Rapist’s ears but has also become the chief architect of the regime’s immigration and foreign policies. We did not vote for this evil man. But as with all authoritarian regimes, people like Miller opportunistically gain power by finding and using the weaknesses in elected leaders. Donald J Trump is as rife in weaknesses as Swiss cheese. From an article in Mother Jones by Ellen Ioanes, “The policy of belligerent imperialism has more than one origin point, and it is nothing new in the context of American empire. Indeed, U.S. behavior on the world stage over the past 18 months is both uncanny and nihilistic; we are once again prosecuting a baseless and unsuccessful war in the Middle East, only this time no one even bothered to try and sell it to the public. If the Monroe Doctrine opened the door for intervention—both covert and outright—in Latin America, the Trump corollary drove a tank through the wall and set up loudspeakers shrieking “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue” on loop…But Miller, as one of the president’s closest advisers and a major power player in the administration, has fueled, architected, and at times instigated America’s practice of foreign policy at gunpoint.”

2.  In answer to the question – Why is the U.S.A. the last one standing concerning for-profit versus public healthcare? – a new study reveals what most of us already know, that America’s White Male Supremacists control the narratives and the legislators. From a Thom Hartmann article: America's Deadliest Con,  “America has 51 billionaires who made their money from our profit-driven healthcare system, the only one in the developed world. It’s not only obscene that they’re taking so much money from so many of us who have so little; it’s also killing all of us.  We’re among the worst — and most expensive — healthcare systems in the developed world, with Thailand and Ecuador even beating us out.  And the reason it stays that way, according to a shocking new study, is because about half of all white people would rather inflict pain on all of us (including themselves) than allow for a system which may also benefit Black people.  If that sounds irrational, it is. But it’s also completely consistent with a history that includes white communities closing their own schools and swimming pools back in the 1960s when LBJ forced them to allow Black children in.”

3.   As we have seen over the past 18 months, the Trump regime led by Republicans has weaponized the Department of Justice, using it to minimize, diminish, and altogether end journalism and activism that opposes this regime and silences voices. The report includes the contents of the letter addressed to Congress and the DOJ.  From Civil Rights Enforcement News: “The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and Nonprofits Together joined more than 440 civil and human rights, faith, environmental, nonprofit organizations, and labor unions demanding Congress to stand up to the Department of Justice’s baseless criminal charges against the decades-old, prominent, civil rights organization, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). In an open letter to Congress ahead of a House Judiciary Committee hearing on the matter, the signers called out the Trump Administration’s political weaponization of the Department of Justice.  “This is a transparent effort to silence and discredit an organization that has worked tirelessly to serve our communities, protect our rights, and hold violent extremists accountable,” the signers wrote. “The indictment against the SPLC has no basis – it is a naked attempt to weaponize the criminal justice system to silence speech and activities this administration dislikes. We call on you to put a stop to it.”

4.  Most Americans will never hear about this important story. Not only do Americans willfully avoid trustworthy journalism like NPR but most of the corporate-owned press is neither free nor trustworthy. Like CBS, these networks bent their knees to the regime. From Up First News on NPR:  “The Trump administration has mass-deleted information regarding prosecutions related to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, including cases involving defendants who assaulted police officers. This move marks the latest attempt by Trump to alter the narrative surrounding the violent riot. Last week, Justice Department news releases that detailed guilty pleas, jury verdicts and prison sentences disappeared from government websites. An NPR review found that the deletions included information about some of the most serious assaults on law enforcement that happened that day.”

Of course, there is more. I hope by doing this on a regular basis, I spread truths and facts that many news networks and social media actively suppress. Every little step and every little effort add to the Resistance. It is every citizen’s solemn duty to stay informed.
